Hey everyone! Just wanted to share my journey going from totally confused to kinda smart (pun intended) when it comes to making Xiaomi devices play nicely with each other — and especially with Aqara stuff.
Started out with a random mix of sensors, a Mijia hub, and a couple of switches. Thought they’d all just magically work together… spoiler: they didn’t.
The real breakthrough? Switching to the Aqara Hub M2 and setting up everything properly in Home Assistant. Game changer. Things finally started syncing smoothly, and I stopped pulling my hair out over failed automations.
Here’s the deal I learned the hard way:
- Stick to Zigbee 3.0 compatible devices where possible
- Aqara and Mijia devices use different Zigbee implementations — some pair easily, others are a pain
- Home Assistant + ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT solved most of my headaches
Also, don’t sleep on firmware updates. That temp sensor you think is broken? Might just need a poke via the app.
Curious if anyone else had the same compatibility nightmares at first? What’s been your secret sauce?
Let’s help each other build smarter, not harder.
