Hey Aqara Community,
I recently swapped out my Schlage HomeKit lock for the Aqara Smart Lock U400, and I wanted to share my experience for anyone sitting on the fence.
The Highlights:
• UWB is Magic: Coming from a Schlage where I had to tap my phone (NFC) against the lock, the Ultra-Wideband (UWB) on the U400 is a game changer. The door unlocks as I approach it with my iPhone in my pocket—no hands required.
• Smarter Auto-Lock: The Schlage used a timer, but the U400 actually knows when the door is closed. It locks immediately upon closing, which feels much more secure and “intentional.”
One Small Glitch & The Fix:
At one point, the lock stopped detecting my phone for the hands-free unlock. I thought it was a hub issue, but restarting my iPhone fixed it immediately. It seems like the UWB “handshake” can occasionally hang on the iOS side, so try a reboot before you reset your lock!
Verdict: If you value speed and a truly hands-free entry, the U400 is a massive upgrade over traditional HomeKit locks.
