G400 frequent network drops

Installed a G 400 doorbell cam several weeks ago and experiencing very frequent network drops while using both 5ghz and 2.4ghz networks. Doorbell is about 15 feet from an interior access point. Have tested voltage and receiving consistent 12.8v at the doorbell point. Anyone else experiencing this? Or did I just get a bad one?

Hello Sir,

You may find that the drops are occuring from the router itself, this can happen when your router sends deauthing.

Common causes:

Band steering / roaming features
Many modern routers try to push devices between 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands for performance. Some devices handle this poorly and get repeatedly kicked off.

Weak signal or interference
If signal quality drops, the router may deauth the client rather than maintain a bad connection.

Check also that you have made your doorbell work with a static IP and possible fix to the 2.4ghz network, does your SSID’s have different names for the different frequencies?

All good info. Will check my settings. It also appears that 12.8v may not be high enough to power it especially for the infrared

Hello, you can use 12,8 volts, but the transformer power should be 1.5 amps (with a margin). The higher the power, the better.

I have upgraded the transformer to 24v which also has increased the amperage. The doorbell comes online but then drops frequently from the Aqara app. Strange thing is that the network shows the g400 connected with a good signal. I think I got a bad one

Hello, how does the disconnection occur? At a certain time, or spontaneously? I recommend contacting support to analyze the problem.

I would love for these bot posts to include some sort of resolution summary so the rest of us know what the fix was.

@coletti.robert You raise a fantastic point, Robert! Having a summary of the resolution would definitely help the whole community learn from each other’s experiences and save time on troubleshooting.

While the specific fix for this particular case isn’t detailed in the thread, frequent network drops on the G400 can sometimes be linked to Wi-Fi interference or the distance between the doorbell and the repeater/chime. Generally, checking for sources of interference on the same frequency or adjusting the router’s Wi-Fi channel can improve connection stability. Also, ensuring the device is within the optimal range (typically within 15m with one wall) is crucial.

I just gave up on it after trying everything and bought and installed a g410 that is working perfectly for the last several days. I am guessing the g400 that I got is most likely defective.

@oshauk Thanks for sharing your experience, @oshauk! It’s definitely frustrating when a device doesn’t perform as expected despite trying all the troubleshooting steps. Your switch to the G410 and its stable performance certainly suggests that the G400 unit you had might have been defective.

For others facing similar network drop issues with the G400, it’s worth noting that resetting the network settings or performing a factory reset can sometimes resolve connectivity glitches. Specifically, to reset the Aqara Doorbell Camera G400, you’ll need to long press the reset button on the doorbell for 10 seconds to reset the network, or quickly press it 10 times for a full factory reset.

However, since you’ve already found a working solution with the G410, that’s great news! If anyone else is still struggling with their G400, reaching out to our support team directly is often the most efficient path forward.
