G400 PoE Electrical Requirements

As usual I’m electrically challenged! Currently my G400 is connected via the doorbell wires to a 16.5V 40VA AC transformer. Without getting into great detail in this post about the current setup, I want to attempt to connect my G400 via PoE. I know specs state PoE input is IEEE 802.3af (48V) compliant. First question: Will my Ubiquiti 48V 0.5A PoE adapter work? If not, can someone please guide me to the correct solution. This entire PoE , +, ++, +++, has me nuts, (got the concept but not the detail). Second question: Since I have to build a cable (using Cat 5E), does the G400 have a defined requirement to use the EIA 568 “A” or “B” wiring standard? Thanks in advance!

Hello, welcome to the forum. Yes, your PoE adapter will fit without any problems. The main condition is a 48 volt output, 8 wires in the cable are involved, direct crimping, the C5 cable type will also suit you. The cable length is no more than 100 meters.

By the way, don’t forget to remove the power from the transformer (24 volt power supply).
