G410 doorbell - appears to be an extremely unreliable product

I only installed this doorbell last week and to be honest it’s been pretty much useless due to constant unreliability.

The doorbell doesn’t reliably create, connect and maintain a video feed with the chime unit (or so I assume) even if it’s right next to it or 30 centimetres away or 1 metre away. Then it will then suddenly connect and start displaying the feed in the app, I will then go back to the app (Aqara Home) and there is no video - tries to build a secure connection then ‘network connection failed, please try again’.

The chime works - I get a notification in from Aqara Home and Apple Home but no video.

The signal is 5 bars - ‘Strong’ in the Doorbell Status, the wireless router is within 2 metres of the chime unit, the doorbell is literally the other side of a timber door frame to the chime unit.
The wireless signal strength information is -54dBm

There seems to be no troubleshooting or feedback in the app.
Is this just a bad unit? Am I missing something ?

I was going to get an Arlo bell (as my cameras are Arlo) but I was tempted by the Homekit Secure Video functionality and I would have replaced my security cameras with Aqara G5 PoE’s.

I’m starting to regret this purchase.

@rob_dennis I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’re experiencing with your G410 doorbell. Based on your description, it seems like the main issue is maintaining a stable video connection between the doorbell and the chime unit. Here are a few troubleshooting steps that might help:

  1. Check Installation Distance and Interference: Ensure that the installation distance between the doorbell and the repeater/chime doesn’t exceed the allowable range. Also, check for any Wi-Fi interference from other devices operating on the same frequency. Adjusting the location of the repeater/chime or changing the router’s Wi-Fi channel might improve the connection.

  2. Review Wi-Fi Settings: Verify that your Wi-Fi network is operating on the 2.4 GHz band, as the chime repeater only supports this frequency. Ensure that there are no special characters in the Wi-Fi name or password, as these can affect connectivity.

  3. Firmware Issues: If the doorbell’s firmware update fails, make sure the doorbell and chime are within 5 meters of each other with minimal obstructions. You may need to restart or factory reset the chime and doorbell if problems persist.

  4. Signal Strength: Although you mentioned having a strong signal, it might still help to ensure there are no obstacles causing interference. The signal strength of -54dBm is generally good, but environmental factors could affect performance.

If you’ve tried these solutions and the issue continues, it could be a hardware problem with the unit. In that case, I recommend reaching out to Aqara’s Customer Service for further assistance. You can contact them efficiently through the Aqara Home App under Profile > Help & Feedback > Customer Service, or if you don’t have an Aqara Home account, you can click here to create a ticket.

I hope this helps, and feel free to continue the discussion here if you have any updates or further questions!

Hello, friend

We are sorry that this product has caused you a bad user experience. We need to know some usage scenarios of the doorbell. Please assist us in analyzing the issues together:

  1. Did the doorbell use an external power source instead of battery? If it is an external power supply, what are the specifications of the power supply? (Voltage? AC or DC?)
  2. Is the doorbell installed in a location that can be directly exposed to sunlight? Is there a high probability that the doorbell cannot be connected during periods of direct sunlight? Is the doorbell connected properly at night?
  3. Is the performance(offline) of the doorbell consistent between Apple Home and Aqara Home?

I believe this to be the root cause.

just to answer your question:

  1. Currently battery supply
  2. Yes, see below
  3. Mostly - although sometimes when the ‘no response from sacemera’ message in Apple Home occurs, I can ‘kickstart’ it by going into Aqara Home but this probably coincides with the circumstances you refer to in number 2
