Hi everyone,
I’m using the face recognition feature on my G410 doorbell and passing it to Home Assistant via a Matter signal.
Initial Setup: I enabled face detection and added one initial photo per person. I then created a Matter signal (Profile → Connect to Ecosystems → Matter → Scene and Signal Sync → Signal Management) to trigger my HA automations.
Here’s a screenshot showing what it looked like for one person with one photo:
The Issue: Over the last few months, I’ve assigned newly detected faces (AI Detection → Face Detection → Face Management → Unknown face detected) to existing profiles. Each person now has 10+ photos. While the standard Aqara app push notifications still work flawlessly when someone is at the door, the Matter signal became highly unreliable. It didn’t stop completely, but it only triggered my Home Assistant automations sporadically—presumably only when the camera matched the original photo, completely ignoring all the newly added photos for that profile.
My Discovery: By pure chance, I tried recreating the Matter signal in the Aqara app. Now, when I select the condition “Specified face [Name]”, the app doesn’t just add one trigger for that person anymore. Instead, it lists multiple triggers for the exact same person—seemingly one individual trigger for every single photo I have ever assigned to their profile.
Here is a screenshot showing what it looks like now for one person with many photos:
Just to clarify: I only clicked “Add” once and added just one person. The many triggers appeared automatically afterward.
Questions:
- If the camera learns and assigns new photos to an existing person, do I really have to recreate the Matter signal every single time to ensure the new photos are included in the trigger?
- Is this the intended behavior, or is this a bug in how the app handles Matter signal sync for face profiles?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
