G410 RTSP stream becomes unstable over time—restart temporarily restores normal operation

Hi everyone,

Has anyone experienced recurring RTSP stream instability with the Aqara G410 doorbell?

My G410 is powered by a wired transformer and connected through its chime/repeater. I use Frigate 0.18.2 on Home Assistant OS for person detection, which triggers outdoor lighting automations. Front-door recording in Frigate is disabled.

The stream initially works, but over time it develops repeated timeouts and decoding failures. In the latest logs, Frigate restarted the front-door FFmpeg process 473 times between midnight and approximately 15:15, including 67 restarts in the final hour.

Errors include:

  • Failed reading RTSP data: Connection timed out
  • RTP: bad cseq
  • DTS discontinuity
  • Could not find codec parameters … unspecified size
  • Unable to read frames from ffmpeg process

During troubleshooting:

  • The doorbell responded to network probes with low latency and no packet loss.
  • Both direct RTSP and go2rtc restreaming were tested.
  • Both the main and low-resolution streams were tested.
  • The other camera continued processing normally during these checks.
  • Restarting the G410 doorbell and chime/repeater restored approximately 5 fps with zero skipped frames, with no further stream errors during the subsequent short observation period.

That suggests the restart clears something, although I haven’t established whether the cause is the doorbell, repeater, RTSP implementation, network, or an interaction with Frigate.

Has anyone seen similar behaviour during continuous RTSP use? If so, did a firmware update, setting change, or another fix resolve it?

I can provide firmware versions and relevant log excerpts.

Thanks!
