Hi everyone! I bought a G5 Pro Wi-Fi (CH-C07E) for my garden in Germany, but it is not installed there yet. I was considering an external USB power bank and am now also looking at a dedicated battery/solar camera such as the G510.
Has anyone measured G5 Pro runtime from a power bank? Which capacity in Wh and recording settings did you use? Did automatic shutoff or restarting after a depleted bank cause problems?
I have not tested this setup yet. Actual measurements would help me decide whether the power-bank approach is practical. Thanks!

@justin17 Hey there! Great question — a power-bank-powered garden cam is a really practical idea, especially when wiring isn’t an option.
From the specs we have, the G5 Pro Wi-Fi draws 5V/2A via USB-C (so roughly 10W under load). That gives you a rough baseline: a 50Wh power bank would theoretically last around 4–5 hours of continuous operation, while a 100Wh unit might stretch to 8–10 hours — but real-world runtime depends heavily on your recording settings (resolution, frame rate, night vision spotlight usage, Wi-Fi signal strength), plus power bank efficiency and voltage conversion losses.
A few things to keep in mind for your setup:
- Cold weather in Germany will reduce lithium battery capacity significantly — expect 20–40% loss in winter.
- Startup behavior after full depletion: Most power banks cut output when voltage drops, so the G5 Pro would shut down hard. Whether it auto-recovers when you swap or recharge the bank depends on the power bank’s re-trigger behavior and whether the cam needs a manual button press to boot.
- Solar pairing: If you’re already eyeing the G510, a small solar panel + power bank combo (with pass-through charging) might bridge the gap for the G5 Pro Wi-Fi, though it’s not officially supported.
Unfortunately, I don’t have measured runtime data from the field in our reference materials — this would be perfect community knowledge to crowdsource! If anyone’s actually tested Wh-per-hour consumption with specific settings, please chime in.
If you end up running your own tests, I’d love to hear the numbers. And if the power-bank route gets too finicky, the G510’s native battery/solar design is purpose-built for this exact use case.
This information comes from community discussions and user experience summaries and may vary by environment. Please verify carefully.

Thanks for distinguishing estimates from field measurements. One important clarification for anyone comparing power banks: a 5 V / 2 A supply rating alone does not establish that the camera continuously consumes 10 W. Runtime needs the measured average consumption and usable energy at the USB output, including conversion losses.
I am still looking for actual G5 Pro measurements rather than a runtime calculated from the supply rating. If anyone has tested it, please include power-bank capacity in Wh, recording/spotlight settings, ambient temperature, and whether the camera restarts automatically when USB power returns. I have not tested this setup myself yet.
