I’ve been experimenting with my GE Dimmer Switch to get it to default to 100% when turned off, and I’m thrilled to share my success! Initially, I stumbled upon a solution using Rule Machine and a custom device handler, but as I discovered, Rule Machine is no longer available for new installations. This was a bit of a setback, but I refused to give up!
After some research, I found a fantastic GitHub repository with a custom device handler called “Dimmer Switch with Reset.” Installing this was a breeze—just a few steps in the IDE, and voilà! The device handler was ready to go. I updated my device type in the settings, and now the switch behaves exactly as I wanted.
For anyone else looking to achieve this, here’s a quick tip: if you’re using Rule Machine, make sure to explore the Expert Features section. You can set up custom commands like “resetLevel” and assign them specific brightness values. It took a bit of trial and error, but once everything was configured, it worked like a charm!
I also want to acknowledge the supportive community here. Without the guidance and shared knowledge from fellow users, I wouldn’t have been able to figure this out. If you’re facing similar challenges, don’t hesitate to reach out—there’s always someone willing to help!
