GE Link Bulb Pairing Issue Solved - A Helpful Guide

I recently encountered an issue with my GE Link bulbs where they wouldn’t pair with my SmartThings hub. After some research and troubleshooting, I managed to resolve the problem and thought I’d share my experience to help others facing similar issues.

Initially, I tried the standard pairing process by pressing the button on the bulb and searching for new devices on the SmartThings app. However, the bulbs wouldn’t show up in the device list. Frustrated, I noticed they appeared as “Thing” devices with an incorrect capability type. This was perplexing, but I didn’t give up!

After some digging through the forums, I discovered that sometimes the device type isn’t automatically recognized correctly. I decided to manually change the device type in the SmartThings hub settings. Here’s how I did it:

  1. Identify the Device: Go to the SmartThings app, navigate to the device list, and locate the unrecognized bulb. It should appear as a generic “Thing” or similar.
  2. Edit Device Type: Tap on the device and look for an option to edit or change the device type. This might be under settings or advanced options.
  3. Select GE Link Bulb: From the list of available device types, search for and select the GE Link Bulb option. Save your changes.
  4. Test the Bulb: Once the device type is updated, try controlling the bulb through the app. It should now function as expected!

This simple fix worked wonders for me, and I was able to control my GE Link bulbs seamlessly. I hope this guide helps anyone else struggling with similar pairing issues. If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out!
