GE Link Lamps Working with Hubitat: A Happy Surprise!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share an exciting update about my smart home journey. After years of struggling with GE Link lamps, I finally found a solution that works perfectly with Hubitat! I never thought this day would come, but it’s truly a game-changer.

Back in 2014, I bought GE Link lamps as part of a Wink system. They were supposed to be the future of smart lighting, but I quickly ran into issues. Devices would drop out of the mesh, and I spent countless hours troubleshooting with Wink’s support team. Eventually, I switched to Hubitat, but I was told the GE Links wouldn’t work due to firmware issues. I had to replace most of them with other brands like Sengled and Sylvania.

Fast forward to recently, I stumbled upon an unexpected discovery. One of my GE Link lamps started working flawlessly with Hubitat’s Advanced Zigbee Bulb driver. I decided to test the others, and to my delight, they all worked perfectly! No more dropouts, no more re-pairing—just seamless integration.

Here’s what I learned:

  • Firmware Update: The GE Links now have firmware version 2.0.2.8, which seems to fix many of the old issues.
  • Driver Choice: Using the Advanced Zigbee Bulb driver in Hubitat made all the difference.
  • Mesh Stability: These lamps are now more stable than they ever were with Wink.

The only minor issue I encountered was that the lamps don’t show up in the dashboard tile selection. But that’s a small price to pay for reliable performance.

I’m so grateful to the Hubitat community and developers for making this possible. It’s amazing how a simple firmware update can breathe new life into old devices.

If anyone else has GE Link lamps collecting dust, I highly recommend giving them another try with Hubitat. You might be pleasantly surprised too!

Happy automating!
