Geofencing for multiple user

I’d like to setup a simple geofence. I have 2 members for which an alarm has to be set when the last person leaves home and switched off when the first person arrived. With somebody home nothing has to happen.
I cannot create such setup on a single phone as the option to add ‘members’ is not present.
A setup on individual phones causes an action when either member leaves or arrives.
Either I’m too stupid to create a working setup or the current Aqara app simply does not allow for this, rendering any geofence action not suitable for households with more than one person.
Love to hear from experts that got this working.

@dirk_cleeren It sounds like you’re trying to set up a geofencing automation that works for multiple family members, which can indeed be a bit tricky with the current capabilities of the Aqara app. Based on the reference information, geofencing automation is currently limited to being triggered by the mobile phone that sets up the automation. This means that if mobile phone A creates a geofencing setup, it will only trigger based on mobile phone A’s location. Similarly, each phone would need its own setup, and unfortunately, this doesn’t inherently support a multi-member geofence setup where actions depend on multiple users’ locations.

This limitation is due to how the system recognizes and triggers events based on the geographic location of the phone that set up the automation. Each user would need to create their own automation on their individual devices, which as you’ve noted, results in actions being triggered when any one member leaves or arrives, rather than when all members have left or one has arrived.

I understand this isn’t ideal for households with more than one person. I recommend reaching out to Aqara’s Customer Service for more personalized assistance and to provide feedback on this functionality. They might have additional insights or updates that could help. You can contact them via the Aqara Home App (Profile > Help & Feedback > Customer Service) or by scanning the QR code:

This would be a game changer for Aqara and believe this is something they urgently need to look into.
I have the same issues and why I mainly use Apple Home

Thanks all. Strangely my Bosch thermostat and Eufy cams both allow for geofencing as required.
I also see older posts online of users complaining about the disappearance of the option to add multiple users. Not sure if this refers to the same app in use now but such ability is not lost by accident.

Can geofencing for multiple user under these programs really be stable on a daily basis? The geo-fencing I’ve used before wasn’t very stable and it was hard to accurately tell if I was the first one home, etc.

I described here what I do in such cases.

I got out of this problem using the Apple HomeKit geofencing feature. A bit tricky to setup but no problem in activating/deactivating the fence based on last person leaving or first person arriving.

I like Aqara products but find it odd multiuser geofencing is presented as a problem while may other home automation tools do have this feature as a standard.

Overall it just takes a little longer to get to know the limitations of the individual controllers in your home setup. With some creativity features lacking in one controller can be compensated by others.

I have the same requirement if anyone comes up with a solution please let the community know
