Hello fellow forum members, I hope this message finds you all well! I’ve been tinkering with my smart home setup for a while now, and I’ve encountered a rather puzzling issue that I could really use your help with. Let me share my story and see if anyone has encountered something similar or has some insights to offer.
I recently reflashed a Sonoff 4CH Pro with Tasmota and integrated it into my OpenHAB3 setup via MQTT. Everything seems to be working perfectly except for one channel, which has started behaving quite oddly. Every night, without fail, this particular channel switches itself on. It’s as if a phantom is controlling it! I’ve checked my rules and scripts, and there’s nothing assigned to this device or channel. I’ve also reviewed the Tasmota firmware settings, and no timers are configured there either. It’s truly perplexing.
I’ve tried several troubleshooting steps to identify the root cause:
- Checked Logs: I’ve reviewed the OpenHAB logs, but unfortunately, they only show the most recent entries. A search for the switch doesn’t reveal any helpful information.
- Reflashed Firmware: I re-flashed the device with the latest Tasmota firmware to rule out any software glitches, but the issue persists.
- Physical Inspection: I’ve physically inspected the device to ensure there are no loose connections or external interferences, but everything looks fine.
- Network Analysis: I’ve monitored the network traffic to see if any unexpected commands are being sent to the device, but nothing stands out.
Despite these efforts, the mystery remains unsolved. The device continues to turn itself on every night, and I’m at a loss for what to do next. I’m wondering if there’s a way to enable more detailed logging on the OpenHAB side to capture the entire event history over a period. Perhaps that could shed some light on what’s triggering the switch.
I’m also curious if anyone else has experienced similar behavior with their Sonoff devices or other Zigbee/Z-Wave devices. Have you encountered any quirks or unexpected behaviors that might explain this phenomenon? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you all in advance for your time and assistance. It’s forums like this that make the smart home journey so rewarding, even when faced with the occasional mystery. Let’s crack this case together!
Best regards,
