Google Home Automation Issue Solved: A Nighttime Recovery

Hey everyone, I wanted to share an interesting experience I had with my Google Home automation setup. For the past 18 hours, none of my automations were triggering automatically. This was a bit concerning, especially since one of them is crucial for keeping my guinea pigs’ room warm. The automation was supposed to turn the heater on if the temperature dropped below 15°C and off once it reached 16°C. However, it wasn’t firing unless I manually triggered it through the Google Home app.

I double-checked everything—firmware updates, app connections, and even physically resetting the heater. Nothing seemed to work. It was frustrating, but I tried to stay calm and methodically troubleshoot the issue.

Then, between 2 and 3 am, everything just sprang back to life! The automations started working again without any changes on my end. While I’m still not entirely sure what caused the issue, I suspect it might have been related to an update or bug fix in one of the involved apps, possibly the MP SmartEnergy app that controls the heater.

This experience taught me the importance of patience and thorough troubleshooting in home automation. It also highlighted how interconnected our smart devices are and how a small update can sometimes resolve seemingly major issues.

If anyone else is facing similar problems, here are a few steps I recommend trying:

  • Ensure all apps and devices are up to date.
  • Check and re-link any affected devices.
  • If possible, monitor the automation logs to identify any patterns or errors.
  • Don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for support—sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can spot something you’ve missed.

I’m really grateful to the community for all the helpful tips and resources that guide us through these troubleshooting journeys. It’s amazing how a shared passion for home automation can bring people together and create such a supportive environment.

Happy automating, everyone! :rocket:
