Hi everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience setting up Govee devices in my aunt’s backyard. It’s been a fantastic project, and I thought I’d document the process and some tips for anyone looking to do something similar!
The backyard is a beautiful space, but it was missing that magical touch at night. My aunt had a few ideas, like lighting up the boardwalk between the upper and lower decks, adding string lights above the lower deck, and even some garden lights that would cross a creek and lead up to the fire pit. I jumped at the chance to help, especially since I’ve been wanting to try out some new smart lighting setups.
First, I started with the boardwalk. The distance was a bit tricky, but I found that using two Phantasy Prius lights worked perfectly. They’re weather-resistant and have a nice warm glow that really brings the space to life. For the string lights above the lower deck, I opted for a bulb string unit that connects seamlessly with the existing setup. It adds a soft ambiance without being too overpowering.
The garden lights were a fun challenge. Crossing the creek required some creative wiring, but I managed to get them to work perfectly. The lights now create a beautiful pathway leading up to the fire pit, which is a real hit during gatherings.
One thing I learned is the importance of planning the layout before installation. I also recommend testing each device individually before connecting them all. This helps catch any issues early on. Plus, using Govee’s app to control everything has been a breeze—it’s user-friendly and offers great customization options.
I’d love to hear if anyone has similar projects or tips for outdoor smart lighting setups! It’s been such a rewarding experience, and I’m excited to see how it evolves in the future. ![]()
