Govee Christmas Lights and DIY Heating Fan Setup

The holiday season has been absolutely magical this year, thanks in large part to Govee’s incredible Christmas lights. I’ve decorated my garden and house with them, and my children are absolutely delighted. It’s added so much charm, especially during Christmas. I have lots of plans for the new year, mainly expanding my Christmas lighting, but maybe something in my children’s rooms as well. I’d like to wish everyone a happy new year, especially the Govee support team, who have given me expert advice on many occasions.

Speaking of expert advice, I’ve been working on a DIY project to create a more efficient heating system in my home. I’ve built my third heating radiator fan using ESPHome and HomeAssistant. This setup has allowed me to adjust the heating curve and lower the return water temperature, all while maintaining a comfortable 22°C in the living room. The project involved using PC Silent fans, ESP-01 modules, and a Dallas/DS18B20 temperature sensor. The ESP-01 is programmed to adjust the fan speed based on the temperature, and it’s all managed through HomeAssistant. This has made my heating system much more efficient and easier to control.

I’ve also been exploring different smart home devices and integrations. For instance, I’ve been comparing the Nest and Ecobee3 thermostats, and I’m leaning towards the Ecobee3 for its compatibility with my existing setup. Additionally, I’ve been experimenting with the IEC energy meter to monitor my electricity usage more effectively. Understanding the data intervals and how they can be configured has been a key part of optimizing my energy consumption.

Overall, my journey with smart home technology has been both challenging and rewarding. Each project, whether it’s a simple light setup or a complex heating system, has taught me something new and enhanced my living experience. I’m excited to see what new innovations 2024 will bring and how I can integrate them into my smart home setup.
