Hello everyone! I’ve been exploring the world of smart lighting and wanted to share my recent experience with Govee light strips. I recently acquired a few Govee H6143 LED strips and decided to try splicing them together for a larger setup. Spoiler alert: It worked out beautifully, but I learned a few things along the way that I’d like to share with you. The Setup and Splicing Process I started by purchasing three Govee H6143 strips, each 16.4 feet long. My goal was to create a seamless 50-foot strip for my living room. The process was straightforward: I carefully cut the strips at the desired length and used the included connectors to join them. The key here was ensuring the connections were secure to avoid any flickering or loss of control. Power Supply and Control I opted for a 30A power supply to handle the increased load, which was more than sufficient. The Govee app made it easy to control the entire setup, and I was impressed by the smooth transitions and vibrant colors. The strips are also compatible with my existing Home Assistant setup, which added another layer of convenience. Energy Cost Calculation Tip While setting up my smart lighting, I also encountered an issue with the Energy Dashboard in Home Assistant. The cost calculation wasn’t adding up correctly. After some research, I realized that adjusting the fixed electricity price in the Energy Dashboard settings resolved the issue. If you’re experiencing similar discrepancies, I recommend double-checking your settings. Challenges and Solutions One challenge I faced was ensuring consistent brightness across all spliced sections. I solved this by testing each section individually and adjusting the brightness settings in the app to ensure uniformity. Another thing to note is the importance of proper insulation and heat management, especially when dealing with longer strips. Final Thoughts Overall, splicing the Govee H6143 strips was a rewarding project that transformed my living space. The flexibility and customization options are outstanding, and the app integration with Home Assistant made it a breeze to control everything from one place. If you’re considering a similar project, I highly recommend giving Govee strips a try. I’d love to hear about your experiences with Govee or other smart lighting setups! Have you tried splicing strips, or do you have any tips for optimizing energy costs? Let’s share and learn together! ![]()
