Govee Lights and Sensor Migration Experience

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my recent experience with my Govee lights and a little project I’ve been working on with my sensors. It’s been a mix of excitement and a bit of a learning curve, but I’m thrilled with the results so far. :star2:

First off, I’ve been absolutely loving my Govee lights. There’s something so relaxing about sitting back and letting the party mode do its thing. The colors are vibrant, and the transitions are smooth. It’s like having a mini-light show right in my living room! I’ve found myself spending hours just experimenting with the different modes and settings. It’s a great way to unwind after a long day.

Now, onto the sensor project. I recently decided to move my Home Assistant setup from an older desktop to a mini PC. It was a bit of a challenge, but I managed to do a full backup and restore everything. The process went smoothly, but I did notice something odd with my sensors. After the move, some of them were taking way longer to update their status compared to before. Specifically, two sensors were lagging by about 30 seconds or more. At first, I was a bit puzzled. I checked the VMware settings, rebooted everything, and even tried removing and re-adding the sensors, but nothing seemed to fix the issue. It was a bit frustrating, but I decided to take it as a learning opportunity.

I started by looking into the logs to see if there was any clue about what was going on. I noticed some errors related to MQTT connections and keepalive timeouts. It made me wonder if the issue was related to network performance or resource usage on the mini PC. I checked the memory usage and saw that it was pretty high—only about 4% free. Maybe that was part of the problem? I’m not entirely sure, but it’s something I’ll keep an eye on.

In the end, I decided to stick with the setup and see if the issue resolved itself over time. So far, the sensors are working, even if they’re a bit slow. I guess it’s a minor inconvenience compared to the benefits of having a more compact and energy-efficient system. Plus, it’s given me a deeper understanding of how Home Assistant and MQTT work together. :brain:

I’d love to hear if anyone else has experienced similar issues or has any tips on optimizing performance after a system migration. Also, if you’re into DIY projects or have any cool ideas for using Govee lights in unique ways, I’d love to hear about them! Let’s keep the creativity flowing! :bulb::sparkles:

Cheers,
