I wanted to share my Custom Lightning setup that I finally finished today. It’s been a project I’ve been working on to combat the ‘winter blues’ here in Canada, specifically in Alberta where we deal with harsh winters and limited sunlight. Let me walk you through how I created this setup and how it’s helped me during these cold months.First, I wanted to create a light diffusing effect similar to clouds. I decided to use heat-resistant polyester fabric for this purpose. I attached it to my ceiling using tac strips, which allowed me to secure it without damaging the fabric or the ceiling. I placed the fabric just beside my Govee RGBIC LED Strips to ensure the light would diffuse beautifully through the fabric.The setup took me about 3 hours in total, which included measuring, cutting, and securing the fabric. I made sure to position the LED strips in a way that would allow the light to spread evenly across the fabric, creating a soft, cloud-like effect. The result? Absolutely stunning! The light diffuses beautifully, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere in my space.Now, onto the automation part. I wanted to replicate the effect of thunder and lightning to create a calming and immersive experience. I experimented with different settings on my Govee RGBIC LED Strips and found the perfect combination that mimics the flickering effect of lightning. The settings I used are shown in the screenshot below (unfortunately, I can’t share the image here, but I can describe it in detail if needed).This setup has been a game-changer for me. During the winter months, when the days are short and the weather is harsh, it’s easy to feel down. However, with this custom lightning setup, I feel a sense of warmth and positivity that helps lift my spirits.
