H2 light switches - Can we expect more features for matter firmware?

Hi, I’ve owned H2 EU switches for a while now. I intended to thread-ify my smart home but the light switch lacks some features in matter-over-thread mode. Specifically I needed the decoupled mode feature. But I had to switch to ZigBee mode for that.

Are any new features planned for the future updates for matter firmware? Or should I stop hoping?

Hello @benediktfetko
Now the functions are limited by the Matter protocol itself in this in Thread mode are not available. With the development of Protacol, I think they will appear, but it takes time.
You can always use Zigbee protrusion in H2 to configure these functions and use it.

Hi, thanks for reply. Does this mean that I could configure the Detached mode using ZigBee, then switch to Thread firmware and it would stay in the Detached mode?

No, it will not work, when switching the settings mode, they are reset and the device goes to a new firmware without saving settings.

Great question! I’d definitely love to see more features come to all products that support Thread. I’ve had too many issues with Zigbee networks that I’m moving as much as possible to Thread.

As @Raman.V said: it is not a problem for Aqara or thread. It is a issue of Matter which does not support all the things u wish for. And i think they will not come soon.

Personally, I prefer Zigbee because, as many people don’t realize, not all thread Networks/Protokolls are the same. A thread network from Eve is different from that from Onvis or Nanoleaf. Google uses a different one, as do Apple, etc. This is why there were initial problems with the multi-admin feature in Matter, which has since been revised.

I stick to zigbee, cause its reliable af and i get the most out of the Features

The issue with multiple Thread networks was addressed and with the Matter 1.4 and Thread 1.4 updates.

However, not all smart home centers can be connected to the same network, and not all manufacturers have released updates for their TBRs. Some have already done so, while others have promised to fix it by the end of the year. We can only wait and see.

Korrekt. Unfortunately it will take some time till the manufactures can realize it

The multi platform issue was also addressed in the Matter 1.4 update, so that should get taken care of, once, as you said, all platforms have update to it. Matter 1.4 Improves Thread and Extends Energy Management
