H2 switches, software buttons

In our home I have now “standardized” on aqara smart wired buttons. I bought a couple of the new H2 switched and read that they support software button programming to control other lights or start automations.

After some digging into this, is my conclusion correct that it only works with Aqara matter devices?
The buttons show up in HomeAssistant, when I press the button the action is logged, but I have not been able to create a single automation using these extra “buttons”. What am I missing here?

If there is no extra functionality, I probably will drop Matter and switcg to the zigbee protocol for extra network stability.

I don’t have the H2 switches, but I have an H2 dimmer switch. To make it trigger automations (for example when I double click) I had to do switch it to “multi-function mode” (but I believe it’s only available in the Aqara app).

There’s also “decoupled switch mode”, which makes the button function as a virtual button (it doesn’t control the light in this mode, you will still see the light and programmable button exposed in Matter, it just disables the default click = turn the light on/off action)

@cezary806 Your menu looks completely different from mine. This is the official app from the Itunes app store?
Did you make any changes?

No, it’s a dimmer switch EU in Zigbee mode.

But I just checked and custom press mode in all H2 switches is available only in the Zigbee mode. So for this to work you need to switch the protocol.

Thanks for the reply. That makes the decision to stick with zigbee much easier and hopefully makes the mesh more stable.
