Hass.io Installation Tips and Tricks

After spending hours troubleshooting my Hass.io installation, I thought I’d share my journey and some tips that might help others avoid the same pitfalls. If you’re setting up Hass.io, especially using WiFi, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, the default video guide works perfectly if you follow the instructions to the letter, especially if you’re using a network cable and your Windows computer is on the default workgroup. However, if you’ve changed your workgroup name or are using WiFi, things might not go as smoothly. I discovered that if you set up WiFi by editing the configuration.yaml file before booting, you might end up unable to access hassio.local:8123 or see the Samba shares. To fix this, I had to use the actual IP address, install the Samba addon, and adjust the workgroup settings to match my computer’s.

For those dealing with Wyze cameras, I’ve heard about issues where the car accessory doesn’t work as expected. It’s frustrating when new hardware doesn’t function properly, especially if you’ve relied on a brand before. I’d recommend checking forums or contacting support if you’re facing similar issues.

On the topic of Hue Lightstrip Gradient support in Home Assistant, it would be amazing to see all its features integrated. The possibilities for custom lighting scenarios are endless!

Lastly, if you’re using Sonoff Basic with an HC-SR501 motion sensor, you might notice MQTT spam during motion detection. To address this, consider adjusting your sensor configuration or using debouncing techniques to reduce the number of events.

If you have any questions or tips, feel free to share! Happy automating! :rocket:
