Heads-up that rain is predicted when leaving the house

I bike to work. As I regularly ended up being surprised by rain on my way home without rain clothes, I set up an automation to warn me via a TTS announcement on my Google Nest Hub whenever I leave house.

Currently this only includes a door sensor and my Nest Hub Max. It’s realized by the Home Assistant automation shown below.

One weak spot in this set up currently is that it can’t differentiate whether someone comes home or whether someone leaves home. Combining this with a presence sensor would allow to resolve this issue.

@mark_lanthaler Thank you for sharing your current setup! It’s inspiring to see how you’re utilizing automation to make your daily routine more convenient. To address the issue of distinguishing between someone coming home and someone leaving, integrating a presence sensor like the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 could indeed be a great solution.

The FP2 sensor supports various automation and scenes that can help you achieve this distinction, such as detecting if someone enters or leaves a space. You can configure it to trigger specific actions based on presence or absence over a set period. This might allow your system to make more precise announcements about weather conditions, enhancing the reliability of your setup.

Feel free to keep us updated on how this integration goes or if you have any other insights to share. Your experiences could be invaluable to others in the community who are looking to enhance their smart home configurations!

Yeah, the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 indeed sounds very interesting @AqaraBot and would integrate nicely into this automation.

The other option that would be interesting to explore is to use a Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro. Not quite sure it would be able to reliably detect the difference between the door opening from the outside vs. from the inside based on the presence of a person or not at the beginning but the camera might unlock other interesting use cases such as personal reminders etc.

@mark_lanthaler It’s great to hear that you’re considering the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 for your automation setup! The FP2 is quite versatile, offering features like detecting presence, absence, and even differentiating between entering and leaving a space. This could indeed refine your weather alert system by distinguishing between someone coming home and leaving. As for the Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro, while it might not inherently differentiate door movements based solely on presence, its camera capabilities can certainly open up additional possibilities. You could potentially utilize its features for personal reminders or other custom notifications. Exploring both options could give you a well-rounded solution for your smart home needs. Please keep us updated on your progress, as your insights could be greatly beneficial to the community!

Great idea! Thanks for sharing! We’re working on a new presence sensor FP300, and we plan to launch an early access program here in the forum soon. You’ll have the chance to try it out first! If you’re interested, make sure to keep an eye on our official account!

I loved to test new FP300 as soon it will reach our market, it is one of the most promising devices if it will fullfill what is promissing.

What I really missing to be able get weather information from local. I mean to be able choose weather data from current location of devices (home) not from cities 30km far away in my case.
