Help! how to increase dissuasion with a third-party LOUD siren

Hi,

I’m using lots of Aqara devices but the alarm siren on my hubs is not loud enough. So, I want to harden my setup in order to increase dissuasion if someone breaks in - or tries to.

I was thinking about adding a third party siren (more than 100dB) connected to an Aqara smart plug. In this case, I need a very simple product that can be triggered with the press of a button, so that it is automatically ON when the smart plug is activated. I don’t want something that works with a dedicated hub.

Could you please suggest a product? À Dumb device or a matter device … Or a different work around?

Thanks

Greg

Hi. If you are looking for a much louder solution, I recommend searching for Siren horn 12V on Google or Amazon to find a high-decibel wired siren. You would then just need to get a matching 12V power adapter and connect it to the siren so that you can plug the whole setup into a smart plug. Once your system triggers the alarm, the smart plug turns on and the siren goes off instantly. Alternatively, you could look for a siren that is already designed for mains voltage, such as 110V, 120V, or 230V, depending on where you live. Just make sure to choose the version that matches your local power grid and pair it with the corresponding smart plug for your region, whether that is EU, US, or UK.

We would be happy to provide some more specific product recommendations, but let us know which region you are in first.

I just use an Aqara smart plus with a 120v to 12v adapter (get one that comes with an adapter plug to connect it to bare wires/screw terminals). And a loud 12v horn off of Amazon.

I think the adapter and horn were all of $20 combined.

The Aqara M1S siren is about as loud as any siren I’ve used? Have you tired the M1S second Gen or newest model?

I’m not sure there are any hub less smart sirens? I’ve been chasing siren options also the last few months for additional options. I ended up getting the Zooz Long Range Smart Siren & Chime ZSE50 800LR. It has a built in backup battery in case anyone gets the idea to unplug it from the wall. It takes tools-time to remove the battery all while the siren keeps sounding off.

(Anyway back on track) Your idea of a siren, The Aqara hub works great the only draw back is that it takes up two plugs one to power the hub and since the hub is too large it covers the other open plugin which sucks!.

Sirens and security… The siren sound is great but I’m not sure you want the siren sounding off in a never ending loop. The goal is to alert anyone within a short distance an Alarm has gone off drawing quick attention + everyone knows there is an text notification going out so the Burglar knows they have a limited amount of time before the man shows up.

My point is don’t over think the siren sound feature and options. Yes we all want a loud siren but not never-ending. It’s to alert everyone in a chain of events. 100 decibels is more than enough.

Hope that helps a tiny bit. I use both the Aqara Hub and the Zooz siren and love all the options with both. Custom sounds, automations, open/close door announcements, person detected approaching the house automation etc.

Thanks all for your answers, I will look at the solutions you shared.

In France, the standard electrical system uses a voltage of 230 volts and a frequency of 50 Hz . The primary plug and socket types are Type E and Type C.

Violence in French cities keeps increasing and the government makes it very difficult for honest citizens to own a gun. I want to increase dissuasion part since I have many neighbours, so they could possibly hear the siren if we were away from home - or prevent the thieves from coming in if we were home with my wife and kids.
