This is probably an easy one for the seasoned smart home builder, but not a newbie like myself. Please know that your assistance will be training me to do bigger things in the future as I get my head around it all. From my knowledge I have connected the M3 and G3 devices to the Aqara and Apple Homekit apps correctly, and evething seems to be working smoothly. But I am having trouble creating automations with the security features in Apple. So here it is in detail to limit as many unknowns
I have created an automation to set both alarms to “away” when we leave the unit, and “off” when we come home. Both automations sound an alarm off/on sound when testing.
But when I try to create an automation to set the alarm off after the camera detects motion, I can only change the alert system
I am assuming that there are more settings to set up in Aqara. So here is what have setup thus far under the “alert system away mode”. Nothing really changes in HomeKit after I change Aqara to HomeKit mode as well
What do I need to do to get this simple setup running smoothly. Thanks gain for your help
@ryanwarnes It sounds like you’re well on your way to mastering the smart home setup! From what you’ve described, it seems like you’ve already done a lot of the groundwork by connecting your M3 and G3 devices to both the Aqara and Apple HomeKit apps.
To create an automation where the alarm is triggered after the camera detects motion, you’ll want to ensure a few things are set correctly:
-
Motion Detection in Aqara App: Make sure the motion detection feature is activated in the Aqara Home app. From your description, it seems like you’ve set the alert system to “away mode,” which is great. Double-check if the motion detection is linked to trigger the alert.
-
Automation in HomeKit: In the Apple Home app, ensure that the camera’s motion detection is set to trigger the desired action. Sometimes, the settings in HomeKit may require a recheck to ensure they align with the Aqara system settings.
-
Syncing Aqara and HomeKit: Make sure both systems are fully synced. Sometimes toggling the settings or re-adding the devices can help refresh the connection.
-
Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your devices have the latest firmware updates, as these can often resolve connectivity or automation issues.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it might be beneficial to further explore the settings in both apps or consider reaching out for more personalized support. Remember, it’s all part of the learning process, and you’re building a great foundation for future smart home projects! Keep experimenting and feel free to ask more questions.

@ryanwarnes It’s great to hear you’ve got the M3 and G3 set up smoothly with both Aqara and HomeKit—getting the basics right is a big step! Unfortunately, the reference information we have doesn’t cover the specific automation setup you’re trying to create (linking camera motion detection to triggering an alarm in HomeKit).
Since we don’t have direct guidance on this, you might want to check if other community members have shared similar setups—sometimes fellow users have creative workarounds. If you have specific suggestions for improving this process, feel free to submit feedback through the Aqara Home App (Profile>Help&Feedback>Customer Service) for the team to consider.
Thanks for sharing your experience, and don’t hesitate to keep asking questions—we’re all here to learn together!
