Help with Timer for Cat-Proof Fridge

Hi everyone, I hope you’re all doing well! I have a bit of a quirky problem that I’m trying to solve, and I thought I’d reach out to see if anyone has any tips or advice.

So, the issue is with my cat who loves ham and has figured out how to open the fridge door! While it’s adorable to see him so resourceful, it’s a bit of a problem because he doesn’t close the door afterward. I’ve tried various solutions, but the most promising one I came across was using a Xiaomi Aqara contact sensor on the fridge door. The idea is to set up a rule that sends me a notification if the door has been open for more than two minutes.

I’ve read through a lot of posts and guides, but I’m still having trouble getting the rule to work properly. I’m using openHAB, and I’ve set up the contact sensor, but the notifications aren’t triggering as they should. I’m wondering if anyone has experience with similar setups or if there are common pitfalls I might be missing.

For example, is there a specific way to configure the sensor to ensure it’s detecting the door’s state accurately? Should I be using a different type of rule or condition? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

On a lighter note, if anyone has any funny stories about pets and smart home devices, I’d love to hear them. It’s always nice to know I’m not alone in these challenges!

Thanks in advance for your help and support. Let’s keep those fridge doors closed and our cats entertained with something else!
