Home Assistant Automation: Temperature-Activated Lights — Success and Questions!

Hey everyone! I’m thrilled to share my recent success with setting up a Home Assistant automation that changes the living room lights to blue when the upstairs temperature drops below 17°C. It’s been a fun project, and I wanted to walk through my setup and ask for some advice on the next step.

My Setup:
I’ve been using Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi 4 with the latest Supervisor and OS versions. My sensors and lights are all Hue products, which have been a breeze to set up. I used the Home Assistant app on my iPhone to create the automation since YAML is still a bit intimidating for me.

Here’s how it works:

  • When the Hue motion/temp sensor detects a temperature below 17°C…
  • And the living room lights are already on…
  • The lights switch to a preset blue scene.

It’s been working perfectly for the past week! :tada:

My Question:
Now, I’d love to have the lights revert back to their original scene once the temperature rises above 17°C, but I’m not quite sure how to set that up. I’ve tried adding a condition to check if the temperature is above 17°C and the lights are still on, but I’m not sure if I’m on the right track. Any tips or examples would be greatly appreciated!

Why This Matters to Me:
This automation is part of a larger goal to create a smart home that adapts to our needs without us having to lift a finger. Being able to set this up has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to take it to the next level.

Thank you all for your support and wisdom!
