Have a vacation home not hardwired for an alarm system. I’ve integrated HA, Protect, and a number of FP300’s for motion/presence, which work great btw. Happy to add more Aqara sensors to monitor doors, glass breakage(?), fire(?), etc. Adding the HA MCP server has made this all fun again!
I’m looking to build an effective alarm system detecting intruders, fire, etc. and, as a bonus, perhaps even connecting to a “monitoring service” so I can get a certificate for an insurance discount. Anyone do something similar?

@lakecoder You can get pretty far with Aqara’s own Alert System as the “alarm brain,” and then let HA/Protect handle the richer automations.
Build the intruder/fire-style “alarm” in Aqara Home
Aqara Home includes an Alert System feature that supports multiple arming modes (e.g., Home / Away / Night, plus a 24/7 style guard often used for safety sensors). You pick which sensors are allowed to trigger in each mode, and you can toggle a mode “on” when it turns blue (armed).
To set it up, you typically add it from the Aqara Home app dashboard (Edit dashboard → Home service → add Alert System), then open Alert System and edit the mode you want (Away/Home/Night) to select trigger devices; arming “Away” can also arm the security state in Apple Home if you’re using that ecosystem too.
Sensors & “glass break” style detection
- Doors/windows: Aqara Door & Window Sensors are a natural fit as triggers in Away mode (open = alarm trigger). (Manuals if you need placement guidance: Door and Window Sensor manuals)
- Motion: If you’re considering Motion Sensor P2, Aqara’s Alert System can drive actions like critical alert notifications and even have a camera hub react (turn/record) when motion is detected while Away is enabled (example flow shown with Motion Sensor P2 + Hub M3 + Camera).
- “Glass break” (approximation): Aqara’s Vibration Sensor is commonly used for “glass break / shock” scenarios—detecting vibration/movement and allowing local/remote alarm actions when it detects something like glass breaking (implementation depends on how you tune automations).
About a professional “monitoring service” + insurance certificate
