After updating the Aqara app to version 6.0 (most recent update) detailed explanations can now be found in the new “Services” section as well as the greatly expanded on Help and Feedback Q&A section accessible at the bottom the Profile page. I gotta say, I’m very impressed with the effort that was put into creating these new, easy to access resources with the information and explanations that were previously lacking.
I’m happy to report that my Facial Detection is working with both Cameras now.
I purchased Aqara’s G100 Camera because on Aqara’s website that says the following about the features that the G100 is capable of,
“Cloud AI: With the HomeGuardian plan, unlock advanced detection for pets, vehicles, packages, and faces.”
I purchased Home Guardian and used it to set up my G100 as a security camera with Motion and Human detection enabled. In the AI Detection section in the G100 Detection settings, the only AI detection option I’ve got enabled is face for Detection, Event Recording and Notifications. I added multiple pictures of my face and set up automations for both specified faces and unknown faces to notify and record. However, the G100 doesn’t even attempt Facial Recognition. It’s like the option is available but even with it set up correctly it has absolutely no effect. I can’t find any information online about this. Aqara’s AI assistant just tells me that it doesn’t understand and suggests creating a ticket (what else is new). I sent Aqara 2 tickets yet received no response. Strangely enough, the camera picks up my dog without ever even having Animal Detection enabled.
I’ve found this experience to be very frustrating. I can’t find any reason why Facial Recognition will not work. I’ve set up and enabled all setting requirements yet still nothing. It doesn’t even pretend to try and pick up something like unknown face.
If anybody else is experiencing or has experienced this problem, please comment your experience and/or solutions. Any and all help or explanations would be greatly appreciated.
@Quasi-Pseudonym Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with the G100 and HomeGuardian AI features. I can understand how frustrating it must be to have enabled all the right settings, yet not see facial recognition working as expected.
Based on the available reference information, I couldn’t find G100-specific troubleshooting steps or known issues about facial recognition not functioning, though similar features on other Aqara cameras often require the following checks:
Make sure the face recognition feature is actually enabled in the device settings, and the detection sensitivity is set to high, especially if the default (medium) isn’t working for you.
Check the lighting conditions in the camera’s installation area. Poor lighting, strong backlight, or reliance on infrared night vision at night can all reduce the face recognition accuracy.
Sometimes, if you have multiple AI features (like motion or pet detection) enabled, prioritization or conflicts could occur. For some models, when both face recognition and other detection modes are triggered at the same time, only one event may be processed or recorded.
Unfortunately, I don’t see specific documentation for troubleshooting facial recognition on the G100. It’s possible that some settings or firmware limitations exist, or that the HomeGuardian plan’s AI features on G100 may not be as mature as those on older models. Your steps of adding multiple pictures, setting up automations, and ensuring correct configuration are spot-on, so you haven’t missed the basics.

May I know if you enable the Home guidance service for single cameras or for family cameras?
Only Home guidance plus has the AI detection function, which is specifically designed to enhance security and provide more accurate monitoring capabilities for your home. If you could clarify this, it would greatly assist in determining the best options available for your needs.
