I am looking for a solution to get ecobee presence detection that appears in HomeKit to trigger events in Aqara. Is Matter a viable option or is there some other method to accomplish the task?
Do the Ecobee sensors support Matter, or does the Ecobee Hub support Matter bridging?
I don’t think so.
One possible workaround would be to use Home Assistant. This would involve integrating the Ecobee sensors into Home Assistant via HomeKit, then passing the occupancy sensor to the Aqara hub via Matter Bridge software (app/add-on). And the Aqara Hub must be a Matter controller. But that’s just an idea. I can’t say whether or not it will actually work in practice.
Hey @midaro! You could try the Eve app to set up automations for aqara devices. I used it to set a condition to get the status of my Aqara door/window sensors and turn on/off my ecobee thermostat. It checks each sensor. Not sure about the ecobee presence sensors but I’d guess it would be hooked into this app too and let you choose an aqara device to trigger.
No, Ecobee does not allow that. Ecobee has a closed system, they want you to use and buy their products to achieve results. They are not “Matter” enabled. They even ended their API program a few years ago which killed off sharing with others like Home Assistant etc.
You can remove the Thermostat from Apple Home and add it to Home Assistant but I’m not sure about how the sensors carry over and work.
I was able to get the Ecobee Premium into Home Assistant but I gave up on the sensors when I found out about the API
The sensors do come over to home assistant via the HomeKit device integration. I haven’t tried linking the sensors over to Aqara via matter, but now I’m intrigued. ![]()
Thanks for the idea - I will let you know if I find success!
