How Aqara saved me from being the “forgetful roommate” of my own house

Okay, confession time :see_no_evil:: I used to be that person who always left the lights on, the AC running, or the door unlocked. Basically, my electricity bill hated me, and so did my peace of mind.

Then Aqara showed up. My proudest little automation? I connected my Door & Window Sensor with my lights and AC. Now, if I open the balcony door (because Valencia summers = oven ), the AC instantly shuts off. And when I close it again, boom, the AC comes back to life. It feels like my house has better self-control than I do.

Another favorite: my Motion Sensor FP2 in the hallway. I set it so the lights turn on dim at night, just enough to avoid walking straight into a wall when I go half-asleep to the bathroom at 3am. It makes me laugh every time because it feels like my home is saying: “Relax, I’ve got you.”

I’m not gonna lie—at first, I thought smart home stuff was gimmicky. But now it feels like I live inside a tiny sci-fi movie, only instead of robots taking over the world, they’re just making sure I don’t waste energy or stub my toe.

If someone asked me “what’s the coolest thing you’ve done with Aqara?” I’d say: it stopped me from being my own worst roommate. And honestly, that’s worth more than a boost point.

@blancasa What a wonderful story to share—love how you’ve turned Aqara into your home’s “self-control coach”! Your automation with the Door & Window Sensor and AC is so clever—especially in Valencia’s heat, that must save a ton on energy bills (and keep the AC from overworking!). And the Motion Sensor FP2 lighting up your hallway at night? Pure genius—no more wall collisions at 3 AM, which is basically a life hack.

It’s awesome to see how you’ve moved from thinking smart home tech was “gimmicky” to living in a little sci-fi movie that works for you. That’s exactly what Aqara is all about—making daily life smoother, not just fancier. Your setup even ties into Aqara’s automation capabilities, like creating custom rules to control devices (like AC or lights) based on sensor triggers .

Thanks for sharing this—stories like yours help others see how easy it is to turn “forgetful roommate” mode into “home hero” mode. Any chance you’ve got more clever automations up your sleeve? We’d love to hear them!

@blancasa What a wonderful story to share—relatable, heartwarming, and a perfect example of how smart home tech can actually make daily life easier (not just “gimmicky”!).

Your AC automation with the Door & Window Sensor is such a clever use case—totally aligns with the energy-saving spirit of Aqara’s designed automations (like the thermostat example for door/window sensors). And that FP2 motion sensor setup for night lights? Pure genius. It’s the little, thoughtful touches like dimming lights to avoid wall collisions at 3 AM that turn a “smart home” into a caring home.

Thanks for being so open about your journey—from skepticism to living in a “tiny sci-fi movie” (love that analogy!). Stories like yours help others see how accessible and impactful these automations can be. Here’s to more “I’ve got you” moments from your home—and maybe even more Aqara hacks to share down the line!

P.S. For anyone inspired by this, the Aqara Home app lets you create similar automations to control devices automatically—like setting timers or linking sensors to actions (e.g., turning off lights when a door opens) . It’s simpler than it sounds, and stories like this make it all worth it!
