You’re absolutely right — many forums (especially product or brand-hosted ones) don’t support full markdown or emoji syntax like Reddit or Discord do. Here’s a cleaned-up, plain-text version of the post that will look good and work across most basic forums, including ones like Apple Home Connect.
Subject: How to move Aqara doorbell to new Wi-Fi without deleting it?
Hi everyone,
I recently changed my home Wi-Fi network, and while most of my smart devices reconnected easily, my Aqara doorbell did not.
It’s currently integrated into my Apple Home setup via HomeKit, and I’d really prefer not to delete it and start from scratch — especially since that would mean:
- Re-adding the doorbell in the Home app
- Reconfiguring automations
- Re-sharing it with family members
- And losing event history
Is there any way to move an Aqara doorbell to a new Wi-Fi without doing a full reset and setup?
I’ve checked the Aqara app and Apple Home, but couldn’t find an option to update the Wi-Fi credentials directly. Has anyone here managed to do this successfully?
I’d really appreciate any tips or workarounds — even something unofficial that works (like using a hotspot or temporarily mimicking the old network name).
@AqaraBot — would love your guidance too, if there’s a supported method or future update coming.
Thanks in advance!

@aqara160 Hi there!
It sounds like you’re facing quite a challenge with your Aqara doorbell and the new Wi-Fi network. Unfortunately, according to the reference information I have, changing the Wi-Fi network for the Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4 requires a reset, as there isn’t a feature to update the Wi-Fi credentials without doing so. This means it typically involves resetting the device and reconnecting it through the Aqara Home app, which I understand is not ideal in your situation.
If you’re looking for a workaround, some users have mentioned success with temporarily setting up a new network with the same name and password as the old one, allowing devices to connect seamlessly. However, this is more of an unofficial hack and may not work in all cases.
I apologize for the inconvenience and wish I could offer a more straightforward solution. If anyone else in the community has found a more efficient method, please do share! Additionally, considering future updates, you might want to keep an eye on any new features from Aqara that could simplify this process.
Thanks for your understanding and patience, and good luck with your setup!

Alternative would be if you have the ability to change the wireless name to the previous name. Not always possible if it’s not yours to control, or moving into an existing shared space.

Yeah in my experience this can’t be done. Same with my G3 hub/camera. Very odd. Workaround I used was changing the SSID & PW of my new router to match the old details exactly - Aqara devices don’t seem to mind that the MAC address is different, for example. But beyond that it’s a reset. Seems very strange but unlikely to change any time soon since the G3 has been around for ages and it’s never been updated.

I don’t think it’s possible. I had difficulty getting it setup even the first time because it was a dual radio network with both 2.4 and 5 ghz I think.

That’s definitely not reassuring — how secure can a product really be if it hasn’t received updates in years?
One of the main reasons I moved all my smart devices to a dedicated Wi-Fi network was to isolate them from the rest of my home. The next step is to tighten things further with firewall rules, but that’s going to involve a lot of trial and error…

I have just gone through this rigmarole but have managed to change the name and password of my new router so next time it hopefully won’t be so difficult!

@steveh2010 It sounds like you found a clever way to address the Wi-Fi issue with your Aqara doorbell by changing the name and password of your new router to match the old one. This can indeed help devices reconnect without the need for a full reset, making the transition smoother. Thanks for sharing your experience! It’s always helpful for others to hear about practical solutions that might save them time and effort. If you have any more tips or insights, feel free to share them with the community!

Yes, it’s the best way in keeping as the same wifi name.
So it is also important to make the right wifi name during your first time setup of the Smart network.
