How does Safety Re-Lock Work? U400

I set the lock to Auto Lock after 5 seconds which is REALLY cool. So when I leave and shut the door, I just walk away and it locks on its own almost immediately. Same for when I come home, just walk in and shut the door. Basically, never have you touch the lock.

But today I left and got a few steps away and had to turn back towards the door for a sec. The door immediately unlocked but I wasn’t going back in so I didn’t open the door. I have Safety Re-Lock enabled which is described as “After a remote, automation, or 3rd party unlocking, the door will automatically re-lock if not opened”.

It’s set for 30 seconds so I assumed, because I didn’t open the door, it would Re-Lock on it’s own. But it never did. Shouldn’t it have locked? Isn’t that the purpose of that setting? If not, then people have to be aware, if they go back to the door and it unlocks but they don’t enter, they have to manually lock the door again. Seems like that would be automated in some way - like a feature called Safety Re-Lock.

Any suggestions on how to get that feature to work?

Dear User,
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. The Safety Re-Lock feature is designed to enhance home security. Its purpose is to automatically re-lock the door if it is unlocked remotely (from the Aqara Home or 3rd Party) or via automation but the door is not physically opened.

For example, if you remotely unlock the door for a family member but they do not arrive promptly and the door remains closed, the Safety Re-Lock feature will automatically lock the door again to protect your home. Similarly, if an automation accidentally triggers an unlock without your awareness, the door will also re-lock automatically.

Thanks for the response! I had a feeling that was the case. So, if I leave and the door auto locks, then I walk back towards it and it Auto Unlocks through UWB but I don’t open the door, there’s no setting to have it auto lock again after a period of time. It will remain unlocked indefinitely unless I manually lock it using the lock icon on the keypad.

In addition, UWB unlocking will not trigger the Safety Re-Lock feature, as it is not considered a remote unlocking method. To address the scenario you described, it is suggested to enable the Automatic Lock feature in the Apple Home app. This is a delayed auto-lock function, which means that after the lock is unlocked, it will automatically lock again after a set period of time.

Thanks for the suggestion!!! I didn’t know what the difference was between those two options in the Aqara vs Home apps. Makes sense.

Always a pleasure :raised_hands:

This is not right rather a safety issue… If Aqara wants to preserve the highest safety protocol the door should always relock itself if it’s not opened after xx time. Aqara should re-think their logic of this situation. Even though sticking to this should give the user the option to do it anyway: re-locking the door after xx time no matter how it’s opened. Also after testing the door re-locking function isn’t that reliable… Several times not working with after remotely unlocking.

This is not a nice solution rather to cover up a mistake in logic. Why should I want to use 3rd party apps to ensure the safety of the lock? Even if I would use a 3rd party ecosystem to re-lock always after let say 30 seconds. The 3rd party app doesn’t now if or if not the door is opened (that’s knowledge only the lock itself and the Aqara app knows by the sensor and not given through). So if I have opened the door and let it open for xx time the lock will close even if the door still open. So please fix or give us the option to do it anyways.
