Hey folks! Thought I’d share how I finally got my Aqara setup playing nice with Alexa — and trust me, it took a few hiccups to figure it out.
So I’m kinda in that “smart home enthusiast but not quite a dev” territory. I had the Aqara Hub M2, a bunch of sensors (motion, door/window, temp), and some bulbs. But my ultimate goal was voice control via Alexa for everything — like “Alex, turn on hallway lights when motion is detected after 10PM” kinda vibe.
What worked for me: switching my Aqara setup to the Aqara Home app (NOT Mi Home), then linking it directly to Alexa via the “Aqara Home” skill. You gotta enable the skill, sign into your Aqara account, and bam — Alexa should auto-discover all the devices you’ve got set up in Aqara.
Pro tip: Make sure your hub and devices show up in the “automations” tab in Aqara Home BEFORE syncing with Alexa, or things don’t always translate. I ran into a frustrating loop where my motion sensors weren’t triggering routines in Alexa — turns out, you need to enable “Allow third-party platforms” in Aqara device settings.
Now I’ve got routines like “turn on coffee maker at 7AM if kitchen motion detects movement” and “announce ‘Door opened!’ if front door sensor activates after midnight”.
It’s not bulletproof yet (sometimes lags), but waaaay smoother than expected. Anyone else try combining the two? Curious what automations others are running!
