Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience with integrating an Aqara Motion Sensor into Home Assistant. I’ve been trying to set this up for a while now, and I thought I’d document my journey in case anyone else is going through the same process.
First off, I don’t have an iPhone, so I’ve been relying on my iPad and a HomePod Mini. Initially, I was struggling to get the sensor to show up in Home Assistant. I managed to add it to Zigbee using a Sonoff ZBDONGLE-E, but it wasn’t appearing on my iPad. I checked the settings repeatedly, and there was no Home icon in the settings menu, which was really confusing.
I stumbled upon a suggestion to modify the configuration.yaml file by adding a filter for the sensor. I tried that, but it ended up breaking my Zigbee setup entirely. That was a bit of a setback, but I learned that sometimes tinkering with the config can have unexpected consequences!
After some research, I realized that my iPad wasn’t set up as a hub properly. I had to enable some hidden settings and restart Home Assistant a few times. It was a bit frustrating, but finally, the sensor showed up in the Home Assistant controller! I couldn’t believe how relieved I felt when I saw it.
Now, the sensor is working perfectly. I’ve set it up to turn on the display when someone approaches, which is super handy. It’s amazing how a small tweak can make such a big difference in the user experience.
I hope this helps anyone else who’s having trouble setting up their Aqara sensors. If you have any tips or tricks, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the community growing and supporting each other. ![]()
