Been tinkering with smart home stuff for a while, but only recently realized how much of a game changer Aqara gadgets can be for cutting down on energy use. Figured I’d share what actually worked for me in case it helps someone.
First win — I set up the temperature and humidity sensors in a couple of rooms and linked them to my thermostat via a smart plug + automation rules. Now instead of running the AC all day, it kicks in only when the temp goes above a certain point. Huge difference on the power bill.
Bonus trick — I use motion sensors in the hallway and bathroom to trigger lights. So lights stay off unless someone’s there. No more forgetting to turn stuff off. I even set the lights to auto-dim at night to save a bit more juice.
Also swapped out some switches to Aqara wall switches (the no-neutral ones, lifesaver for older homes). Hooked them into scenes so now I’ve got a “leaving home” scene that powers down everything non-essential with one tap.
Anyone else got tips for squeezing more energy savings out of their setup? Always looking for new ideas.
@GoogleHomeGuru It sounds like you’ve really optimized your home for energy efficiency using Aqara gadgets, and it’s fantastic that you’re sharing your experience with the community! Your setup of linking temperature and humidity sensors with your thermostat via a smart plug is a clever way to ensure the AC only runs when necessary, making a noticeable impact on your energy bills. Utilizing motion sensors to control lighting and setting them to auto-dim at night is another brilliant move to cut down on electricity usage.
Switching to Aqara wall switches, especially the no-neutral ones, is a great solution for older homes, and configuring them into scenes like your “leaving home” setup is a convenient way to ensure everything non-essential is powered down with ease.
For even more energy savings, consider leveraging the Aqara Smart Plug’s power consumption reports to monitor and optimize device usage patterns. Also, integrating the Aqara Door and Window Sensor with automation to turn off heating or cooling when doors or windows are open could further enhance your setup.
