Hey all, just wanted to share my little victory story in case it helps anyone else struggling with the Aqara G4 connection headaches.
So I got the G4 a few weeks ago, and it straight up refused to connect to HomeKit. It would go through the setup like it’s all chill, then boom—nothing shows up in the Home app. Rebooted. Reset. Screamed into the void. Nope.
After way too much trial-and-error, this is what finally worked for me:
- Make sure your HomeKit hub (I’m using an Apple TV) and camera are on the same 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Sounds basic but my iPhone was on 5GHz which weirdly messed things up.
- Turn off the mobile data on your phone during setup. I have no clue why, but HomeKit freaks out when my LTE is on.
- Updated the firmware via the Aqara Home app before adding it to HomeKit. It didn’t notify me of an update until I searched manually.
- And the weirdest fix? Renamed my Wi-Fi SSID to something shorter and without special characters. That actually did the trick in the end.
After that, it popped up in HomeKit in seconds and it’s been rock solid since.
Hope this saves someone else from the hair-pulling. If you’ve had similar drama with the G4 or have cleaner fixes, shoot them below—always down to learn better ways.
Cheers from a slightly-less-frustrated Aqara guy.
