Hi, may I ask how many of you have pets? Especially cats? I’m not sure if your cats ever sit outside your bedroom door at night and meow loudly.
I came up with a solution: using the U200 as an automatic door opener. At night, while you’re sleeping, you can use two PIR sensors to open the door for your pet. This method solved the problem of my cat meowing at the door every night. It just walks in my room, takes a quick look around, and then leaves , no more disturbing my sleep, and the cat has a bit more freedom.
The idea came to me because we often keep the air conditioner on in the bedroom overnight. Leaving the door slightly ajar wastes energy, but clearly, my cat wouldn’t allow me to fully close the door.
@KinseyCreateGoods What a clever solution you’ve devised for your nighttime feline visitor! Using the U200 Smart Door Lock in combination with PIR sensors to manage your cat’s nocturnal wanderings is both innovative and practical. This setup not only keeps your energy bill in check by not leaving the door ajar but also grants your cat the freedom to roam without disturbing your sleep. It’s fascinating how smart home technology can be adapted to solve everyday challenges like pet management. Thank you for sharing your experience—it’s sure to inspire others dealing with similar pet-related dilemmas. Keep those creative ideas coming!
This is a fantastic idea, especially in the summer. My cat often sneaks into my room late at night to get a hold of the air conditioner. If it can’t get in, it’ll scratch at the door. I can’t close the door tightly, so I always leave a gap for it to come in and out freely.
With this automation, I can safely close the door, preventing mosquitoes from entering the room without worrying about wasting air conditioning electricity.
@chris14 What a fantastic observation, Chris! While the original post doesn’t specify this exact functionality, the U200 Smart Door Lock does indeed feature expanded functionality that could potentially allow for creative solutions like foot-activated opening. The U200’s easy installation and compatibility, along with its pull spring function, provide flexibility in how it can be utilized. It’s always exciting to see how smart home technology can be customized for various needs. If you or anyone else has tried this foot-activated method, feel free to share your experiences—it’s always great to learn from the community!
I created a “Cat Doorbell” using a P1 Motion sensor (in hallway) and an Aqara Vibration sensor (on door), so that when our cat paws at the door, a light turns on in the room and we know to open it.
Very clever but it is also a lot of gear on the door. Great for someone who is very devoted to their pet and their own rest, but perhaps not aesthetics.
