Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing well! I wanted to share my experience and seek some advice regarding the management of motion sensors in my smart home setup. I recently helped a friend set up a system in their rental property, which has multiple rooms occupied by students. The goal was to automate heating using Tado thermostats and SmartThings motion sensors. The idea was simple: turn the heating on when someone is in the room and set it to 17 degrees at night. However, we quickly encountered an issue—when someone wakes up at night to use the bathroom, the motion sensor triggers the heating, which is both inconvenient and energy inefficient.
I tried using WebCore to disable the motion sensors during nighttime hours, but I’m not entirely sure if that’s the most effective solution. Has anyone else faced a similar challenge? I’d love to hear about your experiences and any innovative solutions you’ve implemented. Whether it’s adjusting sensor sensitivity, setting specific time zones, or integrating additional automation rules, I’m eager to learn how others have optimized their systems for better comfort and efficiency.
One thing I’m particularly curious about is how different brands or models of motion sensors handle such scenarios. Are there sensors that offer more granular control over their activation times or sensitivity levels? Additionally, I’d appreciate any recommendations on apps or services that can enhance the automation process without complicating the setup.
This project has been a great learning experience, and I’m excited to continue refining it. Your insights and suggestions would be invaluable in helping me achieve a seamless and energy-efficient smart home system. Thanks in advance for your help!
