I have multiple Amazon Echo devices spread across different rooms in my house, and while they’ve been a great addition to my daily routine, I’ve noticed something that I’d like to address.
The issue is that Alexa seems to have access to devices in other rooms, which I find a bit concerning, especially when it comes to privacy. For instance, if someone in the living room accidentally activates Alexa, it might inadvertently control lights or other devices in the main bedroom. I want to ensure that each Alexa device operates independently within its designated room, without interfering with devices in other areas of the house.
I’ve done a bit of research and found that there isn’t a straightforward setting in the Alexa app to achieve this. However, I came across a potential solution involving the use of routines and smart home groups. The idea is to create specific routines for each room that only include the devices within that space. This way, commands issued in one room won’t affect devices in another. I’m curious to know if others have encountered this issue and how they’ve managed to resolve it.
Another thought I had is about using location-based settings or geofencing. If Alexa could be configured to recognize which room it’s in and adjust its permissions accordingly, that would solve the problem neatly. I’m not sure if this is technically feasible, though, given the current capabilities of Alexa.

It would be fantastic to find a solution that maintains the convenience of smart home automation while also respecting the boundaries between different living spaces.
