How to Set Up a Smart Light Switch for Morning Automation

I’ve been really interested in automating my home more, and I came across this cool idea to use a Z-Wave switch to control my phone line. My goal is to automatically turn off my phone line in the early morning so I don’t get those annoying early calls. But I’m not exactly sure how to set this up. Does anyone know if there’s a battery-operated Z-Wave device that can toggle a logic switch? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences with similar setups. It would be awesome to get some tips on how to make this work seamlessly!

I’ve also been exploring OpenHAB and ran into some issues with serial ports not working on my Synology NAS. It seems like the problem is with a 32-bit library trying to run on a 64-bit system. I’ve tried updating packages and adjusting permissions, but nothing’s fixed it yet. If anyone has dealt with this before, I’d really appreciate any advice you can share. It’s been a bit frustrating, but I’m determined to get this working!

On another note, I’ve been using some HM-Sec-SCo window sensors and they’ve been giving me some trouble. All nine of them are showing communication errors, even after replacing the batteries and updating the firmware. It’s really throwing me off because I rely on these sensors for security. Does anyone have any tips for resolving this? I’d love to get them working properly without having to replace everything.

Lastly, I’m curious about setting up a simple automation for my bathroom fan. I want it to stay on for 30 minutes after I turn it on, then shut off automatically. I’ve heard Node-RED might be the way to go, but I’m not sure how to get started. Any guidance or step-by-step instructions would be super helpful. I’m really looking forward to making my home a bit smarter and more convenient!

Overall, I’m excited about the possibilities with smart home tech, but there’s definitely a learning curve. I’d love to hear from others who’ve tackled similar projects or faced these kinds of challenges. Let’s brainstorm and share ideas to make our homes smarter together!
