Hi everyone! I’ve been trying to set up a smart lock automation where my lock automatically locks when I leave and unlocks when I arrive. It’s such a convenient feature, but I’ve run into a few issues along the way. I thought I’d share my experience and see if anyone else has tips or tricks to make this process smoother!
First, I tried using the default app layout to find the smart app for this functionality, but it wasn’t where I expected it to be. After some digging, I realized it’s still available in the old v1 layout, which was a bit confusing at first. Once I found it, I set up the basic automation, but I noticed that the notifications weren’t working as intended. I kept getting generic alerts instead of specific ones that told me whether the lock was engaged or not.
I decided to customize the notifications to make them more informative. I went into the settings and adjusted the notification triggers to send specific messages based on my location. For example, when I’m leaving home, I get a notification saying, ‘Lock engaged,’ and when I’m approaching, it says, ‘Lock disengaged.’ This has made the automation much more user-friendly!
Another thing I wanted to add was a confirmation message after the lock has changed its state. I found a simple workaround by using a text-to-speech service that sends a voice message to my phone. It’s a small touch, but it gives me peace of mind knowing that the lock has responded to the automation.
I also ran into an issue where the lock wouldn’t disengage if I was on the edge of my geofence. After some research, I discovered that adjusting the geofence radius slightly solved the problem. It’s all about fine-tuning those settings to ensure everything works seamlessly!
If anyone has tips on how to further optimize this automation or suggestions for alternative apps that handle lock notifications better, I’d love to hear them! It’s been a great learning experience, and I’m excited to share my journey with the community. Happy automating! ![]()
