Hey ,
So I’ve been neck-deep in Aqara land for the past few months, but here’s the kicker—I’m not in the Apple ecosystem at all. Total Android + Alexa household here. At first, it felt like I was trying to make a square peg fit into a round hole. Aqara = HomeKit, right? But nope, you can still squeeze serious juice out of these devices without owning a single Apple thing.
Couple things I discovered:
-
Aqara Hubs (especially the M2) actually play super nice with Alexa, Google Assistant, and even Home Assistant if you’re a DIY type. Just gotta make sure you’re adding the devices via the correct Aqara region in the app (tip: Mainland China often gives more options).
-
For automation nerds like me, Home Assistant with Zigbee2MQTT is a game-changer. You can actually customize devices way beyond the stock app’s capabilities.
-
Some workarounds for stuff like custom alerts or sensor triggers—Alexa routines + virtual switches go a long way.
Curious if anyone else here is running a mostly non-Apple smart home but still making the most of their Aqara gear? Would love to trade hacks or setup tips. These devices are seriously underrated outside HomeKit if you’re willing to dig a bit deeper.
Hit me with your setups or any weird tricks you’ve figured out.
Cheers!
