I was curious if anybody knew of any downsides to buying some used Aqara motion sensors, or what to do to make sure they’re set up for my HA setup?
@Blarg When buying used Aqara motion sensors, potential downsides include unknown battery life (as batteries may be near depletion and need replacement) and the need to reset the device before connecting to a new Hub. Additionally, improper previous installation (e.g., on metal surfaces causing signal interference) could affect performance, though this can be mitigated by correct reinstallation.
To set them up for your HA setup, ensure you reset the sensor first (press and hold the button for 5 seconds until the indicator flashes fast, then release within 3 seconds). Check and replace the battery if needed, install it in a suitable location (avoid metal surfaces, high-temperature objects, and ensure a height of 1.2m-2.1m), and ensure it is within range of your Hub to prevent frequent offline issues.
