I recently embarked on a project to integrate Ibeacons with Vera’s Multi Switch to create a seamless automation system for my home. After several trials and errors, I discovered that organizing my setup with multiple zones within Vera was the most efficient approach. This allowed me to control each zone independently through Veramate and implement PLEG logic for managing actions when a beacon is detected.
Initially, I used the Beecon app to test URL requests, which worked well for turning on the Multi Switch. However, the app’s limitation in sending an ‘OFF’ signal until the beacon was completely out of range was a significant drawback. This led me to explore Veramate, which unfortunately doesn’t support turning on/off Multi Switches directly, only specific switches or scenes.
To overcome this challenge, I considered creating multiple virtual devices, but this would consume too much memory on Vera. Instead, I’m now exploring alternative solutions and modifications to Veramate to enable Multi Switch control. If anyone has successfully implemented a similar setup or has suggestions, I’d greatly appreciate your insights!
This project has been a fascinating journey, and I’m eager to refine my approach to achieve the perfect balance between functionality and efficiency. Let’s continue to innovate and share our experiences to make our smart homes even smarter!
