Hello everyone. Can anyone give me a hint?If I buy aqara devices in the Chinese market, will they work in other regions?
Chinese hubs can typically connect only to Chinese Aqara child devices. Similarly, international (Global) hubs often only support international versions of devices including Matter/Thread sensors on the M3 due to regional firmware and certification differences.
If you’re going to be using the devices with HomeKit you should be fine but for the Aqara app I believe most of the devices already incorporate a region block.
You will be able to manually pair most to your hub, but they won’t receive firmware updates and functionality may be limited. I would avoid doing this.
Thanks a lot
If you’re buying the Aqara Zigbee temperature/door sensors from AliExpress also be aware that they’re probably the older versions with Zigbee v1 rather than v3. The main difference is that they stick to one route when paired so if add/lose a router they won’t renegotiate a better route automatically and will have to be manually re-paired.
Hello, I will clarify your statement about routes. Automatic switching to a new route is available in Home Assistant.
Aqara home does not automatically select a route after installing the equipment. To change the route, you need to reconnect the equipment
There are also some devices that mainly just work with Chinese hubs and server - like E1 door windows
I would recommend to buy devices from your local dealer to be sure they are working on your server in the Aqaea app
So this is a grey area, so all zigbee devices from chinese market will work with zigbee2mqtt.
I found this out when I bought quite a few when i was at a computex many moons ago.
So for example all lights in my house are smart, to stop switching of at switch I removed all the light switches (uk is live and live no neutral mainly) used wagos to connect each live to its other live from the switch.
I then replaced with 6 button aqara opple switches (zigbee) and it works.
I have fall back of if main home assistant stops responding (via my server checking) so if server gets no response from home assistant, then server turns off home assistant socket plug, waits to seconds and turns it on. then when home assistant restarts it checks for all addons running itself and if not reboot just the home assistant instance.
