Hey everyone, I’ve been on a quest to integrate Vera with IFTTT, and I’m thrilled to share a workaround I found! ![]()
The Challenge:
I wanted Vera to trigger scenes from IFTTT but kept hitting a wall. Vera wasn’t compatible with IFTTT’s location services, which was a major letdown. Plus, my phone’s battery was draining from constant location checks. ![]()
The Solution:
After some digging, I stumbled upon a clever hack using IFTTT’s Flickr channel. Here’s how it works:
- Add the Flickr Channel to your IFTTT account. If you don’t have one, create a free account.
- Set Up a Recipe:
- Choose your trigger (e.g., location, time, etc.).
- Add the Flickr action: Upload Public Photo from URL.
- Set the photo URL to your Vera script’s URL.
- Title it something simple, like “Vera Trigger”.
- Test It Out:
- Save the recipe and see if IFTTT pings your script when the trigger fires.
Why It Works:
This method bypasses Vera’s lack of native IFTTT support. IFTTT sends a ping to your script, which then triggers the desired scene on Vera. Plus, it’s lightweight on battery usage compared to location services. ![]()

Tips:
- Customize the data sent by using IFTTT ingredients in the URL.
- Experiment with different triggers to automate more of your smart home setup.

I hope this helps others looking to bridge Vera with IFTTT. Let me know if you’ve tried it or have other creative solutions! ![]()
