Ikea Somrig Button Troubleshooting and Solution

Hey everyone, I recently came across an interesting issue with my Ikea Somrig shortcut buttons, and I thought I’d share my experience and solution in case others are facing the same problem.

I have two Somrig buttons, both paired with my Zigbee2MQTT setup. The first one has been working perfectly for months, but when I tried to get the second one up and running, it just wouldn’t register any button presses. No logs, no actions—nothing! It was so frustrating, especially since the first button was working fine.

After some research, I found that others were experiencing similar issues, particularly with newer firmware versions. It seemed like a problem with the interview process during pairing. I tried redoing the pairing multiple times, updating the firmware, and even checking the RSSI values, but nothing worked.

Then, I stumbled upon a suggestion to downgrade the firmware on the Somrig button. I wasn’t sure how to do this at first, but I found a guide on the Zigbee2MQTT GitHub page that walked me through the process. It involved sending a specific command to the device via MQTT to trigger the downgrade.

I followed the steps carefully, and to my relief, it worked! After downgrading, the second Somrig button started registering presses just like the first one. It was such a weight off my shoulders.

If anyone else is struggling with their Somrig buttons, I highly recommend checking if a firmware downgrade might be the solution. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it’s worth it to get everything working smoothly again.

Happy automating everyone! :rocket:
