I’ve been experimenting with integrating my Ikea Tradfri bulbs into my smart home setup, and I thought I’d share my experiences and some tips I’ve picked up along the way. 
First off, I was thrilled to discover that the new range of Ikea Tradfri bulbs are much more affordable and come in a variety of styles. However, I did run into some compatibility issues initially. After some research, I found that using the ‘advanced zigbee CT bulb’ driver worked perfectly for my setup. I was worried about needing an Ikea hub for OTA updates, but luckily, that wasn’t the case!
One thing I struggled with was setting up automations based on motion sensor inputs. I wanted my lights to turn on when I enter a room and stay on for a certain period. After some trial and error, I realized that adjusting the timeout settings in my automation rules was the key. I ended up setting a 5-minute delay, which has worked wonders for my workflow.
Another tip I’d like to share is about battery life for my door sensors. I switched from using reed switches to microswitches to detect the deadlock position, but the battery life wasn’t great. I found that using mains-powered sensors with wifi or zigbee connectivity solved this issue entirely. It’s a small change, but it makes a big difference in reliability.
I’m also curious about anyone who has successfully integrated their smart home setup with a Sonos system for daily routines. For example, waking up to a good morning greeting and the weather report would be amazing! If anyone has tips on setting this up without triggering multiple times, I’d love to hear them.
Overall, my journey with smart lighting has been a mix of challenges and triumphs, but it’s been worth every bit of effort. I’m excited to continue exploring and optimizing my setup.
