Improvement to U200: Auto Lock Timer Feature

Hi everyone!

I have a quick suggestion for improving the U200 smart lock. I love the lock, but sometimes it fails to auto-lock after I leave, even after retrying both automatic and manual calibrations. I believe this may be due to how my door closes with spring hinges.

It would be awesome if there were a feature to automatically lock the lock on a timer, regardless of the method used to unlock it, similar to most other smart locks. This would solve problems where the lock fails to auto-lock because it doesn’t detect that the door was opened and closed. It would also be great for when a family member unlocks the lock from the inside and then forgets to lock it again.

While the left unlocked alarm is slightly helpful, it doesn’t help if I’m already out of earshot when the alarm goes off. Now that Passage Mode is available, I don’t have a reason to keep the door manually unlocked anymore. Adding a timer fallback would greatly increase the reliability of the lock.

I’m open to suggestions from anyone else as well, and thanks for reading my feedback!

@jacob Hello, this can be done using a door opening sensor and the necessary automation where you can set the time you need.

This is what I do. I have the P2 door/window sensor on the door with the U200.

@Raman.V and @UKAndyC, I do have a security system door sensor already on the door, but the automation between the proprietary system and Home Assistant is, unfortunately, very flaky. I would prefer not to have to purchase and place a second Aqara-specific or Matter-compatible sensor on the door just to have auto-lock reliably work. I appreciate the ideas!

Hi Jacob, have you tried this Time feature already?

@SiyuBot, yes. That is the feature that is not working reliably for me. There are two main scenarios where it fails.

The Auto-Lock on Close feature routinely doesn’t detect that the door was opened and closed (and the proprietary security system contact sensor automation intermittently doesn’t work), so I leave the house and the door stays unlocked. The Door Left Unlocked Alarm goes off, but since I’ve already walked away, I don’t hear it. I’ve tried recalibrating the lock multiple times with different door open angles, and it hasn’t seemed to fix the issue.

The other scenario is where someone will unlock the door manually and not open it. When this happens, both current Auto-Lock options do not lock the lock. The door isn’t opened, so Auto-Lock on Close won’t trigger (neither will the contact sensor) and the other Auto-Lock feature only triggers if the lock is controlled remotely by app.

What I would like is an Auto-Lock feature that always locks the door after it’s in an unlocked state, regardless of what method the door was unlocked by (manual turn, key, app, Matter, keypad, etc.). This could be a separate timer, or it could just be an option to extend the existing Auto-Lock timer feature to all unlocked states, instead of just when unlocked remotely by app.

At one point (I believe in firmware v56), this timer option was available in the Apple Home app as Automatic Lock. Here’s a Reddit post showing the feature. It worked regardless of the state of the door, which is what I’m looking for.

If I want to leave the door open or unlocked, I’ll enable Passage Mode to disable all Auto-Lock settings. At the moment, Passage Mode won’t disable my other automations to lock the door (meaning I have to manually disable every automation then enable Passage Mode), which is why I’d like the timer feature built into the lock settings.
